The Vision: Emerging from the Mist
Born between the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020, "Survive" was painted during a period of intense personal illness and recovery. In a feverish creative drive, Elwira captured a vision of a woman emerging from an aura of fog and ancient trees. Adorned in gold, she stands as a testament to the ability to endure, overcome, and find one's "golden path" once again. It is a visual celebration of health, wealth of spirit, and the instinctual drive to never give up.
Artistic Mastery & Unity:
Intricate Texture: A complex base of gesso and structural paste creates a 3D landscape on the canvas, mapped directly from the artist's imagination.
Precious Materials: Layered with acrylics, oils, and metallic paints, then meticulously decorated with hand-applied gold leaf on every elevation.
The Artist’s Frame: The painting is housed in a bespoke wooden frame, handmade by the artist's husband. Elwira herself decorated the frame with gold leaf and varnish to ensure the artwork and its border exist as one inseparable entity.
Exhibition History: First presented at the Carlow Library in February 2020, just before the world changed, making it a historic piece in Elwira’s collection.
