Q: Who is Elwira Bernaciak?
A: Elwira Bernaciak is a contemporary Irish artist based in Carlow, Ireland,
originally from Poland and working in Ireland since 2005. She is the founder of BElwira Art (est. 2015) and Relaxing Art for Adults - workshops project and creates textured paintings in her signature style, Modern Emotional Surrealism.
Q: What is Modern Emotional Surrealism?
A: This is my signature style, where I merge tangible reality with a surrealist vision, allowing raw emotions to color every canvas. I blend abstract-surrealist imagery with a tactile, 3D bio-organic technique—layering modelling paste, acrylics, and gold or copper leaf to give each piece profound depth and relief. When I feel a deeper experiment is called for, I embrace mixed media, incorporating stencils and fluid pouring techniques to capture the essence of the moment. Ultimately, my art is an explosion of presence, reflecting the heartbeat of existence in each unique work.
Q: What materials do you use?
A: Gesso and modelling paste for texture, acrylic paints, archival inks, natural dyes, gold and copper leaf, finished with protective varnish.
Q: Where can I see the art in person?
A: There are several art works at ArtBank Gallery in Bunclody, Co. Wexford, August 7th to 15th 2026 AKA Festival Kilkenny you can see a large collection at Market Cross shopping centre and at Art Source 2026 at
the RDS Dublin, 12-15 November 2026, Stand L28 (Serpentine Hall), where the new collection Fragments of Existence debuts.
Q: What inspires your creative process and your artwork?
A: My work explores various series, ranging from delicate, realistic depictions of the sea, rocks, and trees, to explosive, abstract paintings splattered with colour. I love blending surrealist perspectives with reality, often using 3D textures to offer an emotional interpretation of a specific moment.
In my art, you will find my femininity and my ever-changing perception of reality. Inspiration is everywhere, but it always requires a spark—a stimulus to translate it onto canvas. Sometimes it is an anomaly of nature, the wonder of a quiet breeze, or the flight of a butterfly or dragonfly.
Other times, it comes from playing with children, a poignant story, an enigmatic dream, or a simple conversation that suddenly crystallizes into an image in my mind. I simply love to create and seek to reflect everything I feel onto the canvas. That is why every painting tells its own unique story.
Q: Why does the price of your artwork change over time?
A: My original artworks are investments. As a piece gains exhibition history or undergoes professional framing, its value reflects its growing presence in the art world. I always recommend securing your favourite painting at its initial price when you first see it, before it travels to exhibitions or galleries.
Q: How can I buy an original painting?
A: All available works are in the online shop with prices shown (originals
from about EUR 100 to EUR 3,200). You can buy directly online or email
belwirainfo@gmail.com to arrange a viewing.
Q: Why are there price differences between your website, galleries, and events?
A: My pricing reflects the different sales channels involved. When purchasing through galleries, prices include the standard commission fees required by those venues. Buying directly from me—via my website or at exhibitions—bypasses middleman fees. Furthermore, during live events where I am present, I am often happy to offer a 10–15% discount as a thank you for your direct support.
Q: Can I pay for a painting in instalments?
A: Yes, I am happy to offer flexible payment plans for my original works. Please contact me directly via email to arrange a personalised schedule. Once the final payment is received, the artwork will be prepared for delivery.
Q: How do you pack and ship the paintings?
A: Every artwork is packed personally by me with the utmost care to ensure it arrives safely. I use bubble wrap, protective paper, and secure foil to prevent any damage during transit. Each package also includes a signed Certificate of Authenticity and a personal thank you note.
Q: What are the shipping options and delivery times?
A: I use reliable postal services and professional couriers. Depending on the destination, I may also deliver the artwork personally. For local deliveries in Ireland, I am happy to assist with installing the artwork on your wall. Once an order is placed on my website, the preparation process takes 3–5 business days before dispatch. You will receive an email with your specific delivery details and tracking information.
Q: Do you accept custom commissions?
A: Yes! I love creating bespoke art for your specific space. If you have a vision for a particular size or subject, please reach out via email, and we can discuss the details.
Q: How do custom commissions work, and is a deposit required?
A: I love creating bespoke art tailored to your vision. For all custom commissions, I require a non-refundable deposit to secure your booking and cover the initial costs of materials, research, and project planning. The deposit amount is determined based on the scale and complexity of the project. Please note that this deposit is non-refundable if you decide to cancel during the creative process, as it compensates for the time and resources already invested in your unique piece. Final payment is due upon completion.
Q: How should I care for and maintain my textured 3D paintings?
A: My artworks are crafted to be durable and long-lasting. Every painting is meticulously protected with a professional liquid varnish, followed by a high-quality spray varnish. This process seals the colours and 3D textures, ensuring they remain vibrant and protected against UV light and temperature fluctuations.
Maintenance tips:
-
Cleaning: To remove dust, gently wipe the surface with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
-
Environmental note: Like any natural canvas, the backing can absorb moisture. I recommend keeping the painting in a stable environment. If you need to clean the back of the canvas, please use only a gentle anti-fungal spray, ensuring it does not touch the painted surface.
-
Restoration: If the canvas is accidentally torn or scratched, please contact me immediately. I am committed to preserving the integrity of my work. I offer free minor repairs for the first year after purchase; after that, I provide professional restoration services for a reasonable fee.
Every painting that finds its new home is a source of joy and great motivation for my future creative work.
Thank you for being a part of this journey.
