The Story: From Family Tree to Canvas
Inspired by a black-and-white photograph found while exploring her family tree, Elwira brought to life a moment from over 75 years ago. These women were her mother’s cousins; while Elwira only had the chance to meet one of them in person, her uncle’s genealogical research allowed her to "meet" the others through her brushes. This painting is an exploration of old customs, the evolving role of women, and the artist's personal journey into her roots.

Sepia Reimagined: To honor the original 1940s photograph, Elwira used delicate layering of paint to achieve a modern sepia effect, blending historical accuracy with her individual artistic imagination.
