Virtual Roll
Virtual Roll – A Pandemic Time Capsule
Step back into March 2020 with "Virtual Roll", a sharp, witty, and deeply relatable piece of conceptual art created during the height of the global lockdown.
The Vision: Survival and Absurdity
As the world closed its borders and information about the coronavirus became overwhelming, Elwira decided to "block out" the noise by focusing on a sudden, bizarre symbol of the time: the humble toilet roll.
The Inspiration: This painting was born from a real-life trip to the local store. Facing empty shelves and the surreal advice from staff that she could "use newspapers" instead, Elwira channeled that frustration and disbelief into her art. "Virtual Roll" is a meditation on human panic, supply chains, and the digital nature of information during the pandemic.
Artistic Mastery:
Deep Canvas Impact: Created on a 20x20cm deep-edge canvas, the artwork has a chunky, sculptural feel that makes the simple subject stand out with unexpected importance.
Minimalist Realism: The clean, focused depiction of the roll against a stark background mirrors the isolation and focus of the lockdown period.
Historical Significance: This is a smaller, intimate version of Elwira’s larger, sold-out "Virtual Roll" series, making it a rare chance to own a piece of this iconic collection.
