Donegal
Donegal – The Prophetic Flight
A stunning intersection of dream and reality, "Donegal" is more than just a landscape; it is a painted wish that took years to come true.
The Vision: A Dream in the Sky
Created in 2018, this large-scale work was inspired by Elwira’s fascination with the rugged beauty of Donegal and the high-octane atmosphere of James Bond films. At the time of painting, flying was a distant, "impossible" dream for her. She imagined a small plane soaring over the cliffs, capturing a feeling of freedom she hadn't yet experienced.
The Story: In a beautiful twist of fate, Elwira’s dream manifested in 2024. Years after completing this painting, her son-in-law became a pilot and took her into the skies, finally teaching her how to control the aircraft she had envisioned on canvas so long ago.
Artistic Mastery:
Evolution of Texture: Elwira returned to the canvas in 2019 to enhance the work with multi-layered paint and gesso, creating a three-dimensional landscape that mirrors the physical power of the Wild Atlantic Way.
Vibrant Perspective: The high-angle view provides a "pilot’s perspective," using a palette knife to create the jagged cliffs and the shimmering turquoise waters of the coast.
Exhibition History: This significant work has been displayed at several shows in Carlow and the ArtBank Gallery in Bunclody.
