Dolmen
Dolmen – The Weight of Ancestry
Discover a surrealist tribute to Ireland’s ancient soul with "Dolmen". This 2017 piece reimagines the iconic Brownshill Dolmen of Carlow, blending local pride with a poignant reflection on the passage of time.
The Vision: A Heritage in Suspension
Inspired by a sunset view of the local megalithic monument, Elwira’s imagination placed this massive symbol of ancestry inside a transparent "bag." This unique visual metaphor suggests that even our most solid history is fragile, held together by a thin membrane that might burst under the pressure of the Irish elements. It is a profound meditation on how we carry our past and the inevitability of change.
Artistic Mastery:
Surrealist Perspective: The contrast between the heavy, ancient stones and the delicate, veined enclosure creates a striking visual tension that is characteristic of Elwira’s conceptual style.
Atmospheric Light: The background captures the soft, golden hues of an Irish sunset, grounding the surreal elements in a recognizable, local landscape.
Exhibition History: A widely recognized piece, it has been featured at art shows in Waterford and Kilkenny, as well as the Fringe Arts Festival in Carlow (2018).
